A new program to advance and prioritize Interoperability in support of the European Health Data Space (EHDS) regulation
IHE PRISM is a program to enable focused prioritisation of real-world health data quality and exchange imperatives. Launched by IHE International in 2025, applies the proven IHE process to turn specific market and policy needs into clear, standards-based, testable interoperability specifications that are ready for adoption.

Building on IHE’s established process, IHE PRISM brings together a focused group of stakeholders, such as users, implementers, technical experts, and policymakers, to define concrete use cases, profile existing standards, and validate implementations through testing. It establishes a repeatable structure under which multiple focused initiatives can operate, while remaining aligned with IHE Domains and the broader global IHE ecosystem.
Each IHE PRISM is designed to rapidly mature interoperability guidance into structured, testable IHE Profiles and supplementary specifications , working in coordination with relevant IHE Domain Committees to ensure consistency with existing IHE Profiles and Technical Frameworks. As with other IHE activities, IHE PRISMs build on IHE’s proven methodology, including the development of standards-based Interoperability Profiles and the full testing continuum, from early validation through Plugathons to formal IHE Connectathon® testing using Gazelle tools. This enables healthcare ecosystems to move from intent to interoperable reality faster and with confidence.
An IHE PRISM EHDS has been launched by IHE-Europe, addressing the adoption of the European Health Data Space (EHDS). This initiative brings together key European stakeholders and works in collaboration with partner standards development organisations, such as HL7® Europe, while remaining fully embedded within the global IHE framework.
IHE PRISM EHDS initial priorities include;
- Coordinate extensions of existing IHE specification and development of new IHE specification, such as the Manifest based Access to DICOM Objects (MADO) Profile.
- Support EURIDICE, a joint collaboration between IHE-Europe and HL7 Europe
- Support Xt-EHR including hosting a Projectathon testing event in conjunction with our annual Connectathon.
- Support ecosystem alignment on testing and validation needs in collaboration with IHE Catalyst.
